Sepulchral Guard Mark II

Ages ago I painted a set of Sepulchral Guard from the original Warhammer Underworlds Shadespire set. I really enjoy painting bone, so I've painted the same set again.

I've kept to the same scheme as last time but this was a new experience for me as I used 100% oil paints (after the undercoat). I absolutely loved it. I wouldn't be surprised if acrylics took a back seat for some time while I play around with these some more. If you haven't tried painting (not just shading/staining) with oils yet, I highly recommend it.

Until next time, happy painting!

The Wurmspat

Still loving the Nurgle. These are actually the first models I've completed this year. Apart from an exercise in colour mixing and oil paints, this was also an experiment in photography. I'm pretty pleased with the setup, thought it properly needs a couple of dedicated lights rather than the horribly twisted necks of painting lamps to get the right angle. They're on my 2025 wish list.

Hope you like them!

Until next time, happy painting!

Underworlds Part 2: Steelheart's Champions

Underworlds warbands are great. In one box you get not only a unit, but an entire force ready to go. Unlike armies, which can, if you let them get out of hand, expand indefinitely, warbands are a one-off purchase for a small but complete collection. This makes them very easy to collect, so I have about 10 of them.

My first (and still favourite) is the Sepulchral Guard, which appeared on the blog a little while ago. These guys are the second - meet my Steelheart's Champions!

And a group shot!

Painting these was yet another attempt to paint quickly without investing too much time. It was also another experiment with oil paints, not only using them for shading/washing but also for the blue cloth and armour panels. I'm delighted with how they came out. The gold armour was also a test for some Sanguinary Guard that are on my to do list...

More stuff to come soon. In the meantime, happy painting!

Happy Spooktober! Part 2: Sepulchral Guard

All the Underworlds Warbands have gorgeous models, but there's no way I could pass up getting my hands on the first undead warband GW released!

One thing that really excited me about Underworlds is the idea that I might get an actual entire force completed in good time (because it's only like, 3 to 9 models!). But, as usual, I've instead sat on these guys for about 2 years before finally getting them done. Still, we're working our way through the backlog and these guys are looking great!

Group shot!

Lots of photos but very appropriate for the continuation of Spooktober! I hope you like 'em.

Until next time, happy painting!
