Plaguecaster

Did I mention I love painting Nurgle? As well as the two bloat drones you've already seen, I actually have a small collection of Death Guard in my horde of plastic, resin, and metal. When I get round to buying a Mortarion model, it'll be an army to fear. Until then, enjoy this plaguecaster and my second attempt at OSL with fluorescent paints!

This is actually from last year, but I'd forgotten to post it earlier. It will be a break from the Nurgle for a while, but plenty of other stuff coming this year.

Bloaty McBloatface

This post has been a long time coming.

 

Last year I went to Warhammer Fest and entered Golden Demon for the first time in I can't remember how long. I chose a Bloat Drone in the vehicle category and it was a sprint to the finish line to get him in before entries closed. It's been a long time since I tried to push myself to competition painting and I decided to use new tools like enamels and oil washes, and lots of texture and brush strokes to make a suitably Nurgly entry.

 

And some shots with a more atmospheric white balance. This is Nurgle, after all.

 

Sadly, he didn't even make finalist. Partly, I suspect this was entering on the second day, but I can see a lot that I wish I'd spent more time on. Still, I'm very proud of the floating eye. I think it gives a lot of personality to a push-fit miniature from a starter set. Oh, here's a video of him spinning:

 

 

I'm looking forward to entering again this year. Guess I should start preparing something now so it's not such a mad dash at the end. I would like to avoid transporting my painting setup with me again!

Bloat Drone

What a disgustingly busy summer it's been. If I could get more time to work on this blog I would. No matter. We're here now and we've got a new model to show off. This is my Bloat Drone - it was a prototype for a GD entry and I'm pretty delighted with how it came out. See for yourself!
 

Still need to find time to take better videos, but I hope you'll agree it's an impressive piece for the tabletop. I'm accumulating quite a collection of painted Death Guard. Pity about their current state in the rules.

Poxwalkers Take 2

The thing about disease zombies is you can never stop at just 30. So How about 30 more?

I tried making them a little more colourful than the last ones, a little more saturated. And, because photographing 30 models in batches small enough to fit against my background is tedious, I decided to take some videos to show them off instead.

I'm still experimenting with shooting video I'll be the first to admit they're are still a little dark. Something to work on, but it does give it a moody look and shows you can be colourful and grimdark. Once the death guard army is all done there'll be a big reunion post of the whole lot. Maybe even some videos and shots against different backgrounds?

Grimdark Poxwalkers

What could be scarier than 10 plague-ridden poxwalkers shambling towards you?

How about 30?!

I'd almost forgotten about these guys, but having remembered I have to go back on what I said in the last post - I did get something else painted over lockdown. Though I wasn't painting much, I was watching a lot of new painting content online and got inspired by the Grimdark style and Not Just Mecha's approach to painting and use of oil paints. I decided to give oil paints a try and fell in love immediately. 

An army I've been meaning to collect since I picked up an old metal Typhus model is the Death Guard, and between Conquest Magazines and a No Know Fear box I've got a small force put together. I wanted a project where I didn't have to worry about being precise because dirt and grime was the goal, and these guys fit the bill. After doing most of the work with airbrush and Contrast paints, I slapped a thick coat of black oil paint on, rubbed off the excess, and was left with some pretty awesome, disgusting Nurgle models. I spent a little more time adding highlights and details but all told they only took a few days for each batch (one of 20, one of 10) and I'm very pleased with the results.

Naturally, oil paints have become a staple on my painting table and you can expect to see me abusing them a lot more in the very near future.

OK, now I'm pretty sure I'm all caught up on what happened over lockdown. Everything else should be new stuff. Probably.
