Dryads again

They're a very old sculpt (and it shows when you're putting them together) but I love them. Once again, these are not the start of an army (though I have some bigger trees that will soon be on the WIP table). They were actually a small addition to someone's collection and painting them almost entirely in oils was an absolute joy.

I really need to get some of these for my own collection. Maybe about 40? What size unit do I need for The 9th Age?

Until next time, happy painting!

Mad Beeches

"Trees that could whisper, talk to each other. Even move."

I've always loved the treekin section of the old wood elf army, and GW's dryads are some of the nicest models despite their age. Finally, I got to paint some! I wanted to try some new painting techniques and use looser brush strokes over base tones to make these models come to life. (Like my poxwalkers, oil paints were an important ingredient, but this time brown instead of black!) I'm very pleased with how they came out - honestly the photos don't do them justice! - and have affectionately named this unit the "Mad Beeches".

Close-up of some of the details.

Sadly, I don't think this will be the start of a full army. I have plans for a wood elf army one day, but there are too many projects between now and then. Hence, these guys got round bases. Maybe (like my ghouls) I'll find an AoS player that needs an extra 15 dryads for their Sylvaneth army. Otherwise, round bases look nicer in the display cabinet anyway.

Until next time, happy painting!

The Very Last of the Wood Elves... Probably

So remember a while back when I posted what were almost the last of the wood elves I painted for a friend? Well long story short he wanted more. Which is good, I guess. Still, glad they're all done. Hope you like 'em!

(Conversions are not mine, they arrived that way. One guy is missing an arm because he came with a custom banner, which I painted, but the banner was held in the wrong arm...)

One last thing - apologies for the photos. I'm not much with a camera, but it's going to be a goal of mine come Xmas to improve my photography skills, so please just be patient.

The Last of the Wood Elves...kind of....

As the title suggests in an indecisive manner, these are the last of the wood elves I was painting for a friend. 24 eternal guard, converted from plastic sets (not by me). The cork bases, however, I made to help the models rank up a little better.

They are not actually the last models in his army, but they are the last actual elves I painted. I finished them and two eagles (the actual last models I painted for him) some time ago but have only gotten round to posting them now. You'll have to wait a little longer for pictures of the eagles. In the meantime, enjoy!

More Wood Elves and Some News

So it's been a while since I put up any more wood elves. Out of 92 I've done 68 (unless I've miscounted...). Here are some pics of the Waywatchers.

The pictures aren't great as they were taken in a rush. Something to work on in future.

Now, the news. I will not be painting the last few elves for some time as I have another project which needs immediate attention - I'll be painting a copy of Dreadfleet! It's a priority as they need it done by 9th of March, which is a challenge for a slow painter like me.

Photos of Dreadfleet will be up shortly. If I'm lucky this weekend.

Update Time: Wood Elves!

Here's the latest batch of wood elves. Please excuse the bit of wall visible in the last photo. I didn't line up the background properly for taking one of the standard bearer. The owner was happy with these models but I'm actually getting a little bored repeating the same rank and file paintjobs. I need some time to practice for competition season coming up. I do however have a different model underway that I'll be posting right after this...

Let me know what you think!

Wood Elves

It's been a little over the two weeks promised. These pictures have been sitting in my camera for a while but I've found the time to upload them. They are 31 of 40 archers (1 test model plus 3 batches of 10) and their owner is pleased with them. The others are coming along nicely but I'm a little behind what I'd hoped to have done so I'd better get back to work. Keep an eye out for 60 more wood elf models coming soon!

And here's a photo of the cloaks of 5 of them...
